ASUS has made a lot of excellent white motherboards for the 12th gen platform. While the ROG Strix B660-A is the better-looking option than the Prime one we’re looking at here, it’s a bit harder to justify in terms of value. The same is true for the ASRock B660 Pro RS.

Honestly, putting together motherboards that use the color white as the main focus is not easy. While the heatsinks on this board are more silver or chrome rather than white, they can fit quite well into an all-white build. Especially if you are using high-end components or those with good designs.

With that said, admittedly, this motherboard is quite basic. It lacks a rear-panel cover, which is a shame since many users have gotten used to having it on other motherboards. The VRM heatsinks are not that big, but they do a good job of keeping things cool.

Fortunately, the board is quite functional. It may lack the fancy features of the best white motherboards above, but it does not lack in performance. Memory overclocking is surprisingly great, thanks to the intuitive BIOS. No DDR5 support here, but you can crank that DDR4 memory to high frequencies.

An interesting thing about AMD platforms is that, unlike Intel, there’s not much of a difference between the mid-range and higher-end chipsets. For B550 and X570 comes down to the number of PCIe Gen 4 lanes. This means that many mid-range motherboards can still compete with the flagship offerings.

X570 Motherboards: Best X570 Motherboards

B550 motherboards are quite abundant in nearly every store online. The B550 Tomahawk is a great all-around motherboard, and the Gigabyte B550 Aorus Elite is a great value. However, when it comes to white motherboards, the Strix B550-A is your safest bet because of the design and extensive features.

Speaking of which, the design of this motherboard certainly shows why that is the case. While the PCB here uses an-all black design, the heatsinks and rear-panel cover with white and silver accents contrast that beautifully. Like many ASUS boards, the large rear-panel cover has an RGB zone and some branding. It also says “ROG Strix” in a bold red font.

The chipset heatsink and M.2 shields follow a similar design, and the overall look of the motherboard is quite premium. The materials used for these heatsinks are great as well. Both of the M.2 slots come with aluminum shields, which is a nice touch.

This motherboard comes with a 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet port and eight usb ports but it lacks Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, unfortunately. It does feature BIOS flashback, which proves to be a handy feature. We also get an addressable Gen 2 RGB header along with ASUS Aura Sync.

The SupremeFX audio codec does wonders for the sound quality, especially in games. Memory overclocking is quite good, but CPU overclocking can be better.

Moving on, the design here is similar to many Vision boards we have seen in the past. It uses a large and symmetrical rear-panel cover, which this time features the “Aero” branding at the top. The VRM heatsinks sort of curve inwards, giving it an interesting look. As for the chipset heatsink, it features some color this time around.

The rest of the board is fairly minimal, but it does feature white aluminum shielding for the M.2 shielding. This board features excellent connectivity in the form of a 2.5-gigabit ethernet port, Wi-Fi 6, and Bluetooth 5.2.

Memory overclocking is quite good, as you can push DDR4 RAM quite a bit with this motherboard. Apart from that, it features four M.2 slots, all of which are PCIe Gen 4, depending on your configuration. ASUS has a few clever features that come with this motherboard. For example, it has a one-click overclock button in the BIOS. This applies an optimized overclock and a fan curve to both the CPU and GPU. While features such as this one are not liked by enthusiasts, it works well enough for the average Joe.

You do get a good amount of ports here. Both of the M.2 slots support PCIe Gen 4, and you also get USB 3.2 Gen 2, which is expected of an X570 board. Wireless connectivity would have made this a much better deal.
